Fairness, Democracy, Rule of law and Individual Freedom

The principles and culture of a country only exist if those who live in it, protect, promote and live those principles through their actions.

The Magna Carta Network (MCN) is a site which focuses on promoting the constitutional, traditional British principles of Fairness, Democracy, Rule of Law and Individual Freedom at a local community level.

It aims to encourage individuals to promote these principles by actively participating in their local government and institutions; community projects; charities and cultural preservation. Through taking responsibility for our surroundings, we collectively aim to proactively improve the lives of all families; all regions and our country as a whole, where officials have failed to act.

Participation in this network requires you to agree to the following terms and conditions:

Discussion Forum and MCN Standards

1. I understand that as a member, I can raise any topic for discussion in my local constituency forum that is relevant for other residents. If appropriate, I can start discussions in other community forums, but only if the topic directly relates to that community.
2. I understand that as well as my constituency forum, I can post and engage with my regional forum (Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England) and a UK wide forum. I will ensure that discussion topics are placed in the relevant forum, based on where networks can find solutions to the issues raised.
3. I understand that if I start a discussion topic, I will act as moderator for that discussion and I will take responsibility for maintaining fair debate, free speech and civility. I will apply the principles of Fairness, Democracy, Rule of Law and Individual Freedom fairly and equally to all contributors, regardless of characteristics or political allegiance.
4. I agree that the MCN does not support or promote any one political party. It exists only to represent my local community, cultural tradition and the principles of the British constitution before all political allegiance.
5. As moderator or member, I will insist that the freedom to speak and be heard is respected on this platform at all times, for all members. All ideas will be given fair and equal consideration and analysis within forum discussion.
6. I acknowledge that discussion topics will be used to raise awareness and solve problems in my local community. As a moderator or member, I will take steps to guide the discussions so that they are conducted with the aim of finding practical, real life solutions for my community projects and I will act in accordance with that aim.
7. As moderator or member I will respect and seek to uphold local traditions and culture as well as regional and national events and tradition. If for any reason, I do not agree with these traditions or events, I will remove myself from that specific discussion rather than disrupt efforts, because traditional principles of the country and region come before my personal beliefs.
8. As moderator or member I agree that all comments and information contained within this site are private and not for public discussion unless members give express permission for comments and information to be shared outside of the MCN website. The term ‘website’ is limited to all pages of this site and does not include any MCN social media pages.
9. I acknowledge that the MCN cannot monitor all comments made by members and cannot be held responsible for the comments posted on this site. Any and all words posted by members are their own.
10. As moderator or member I will not use any of my freedoms to harass, target or bully any individual member of this site. I will never suggest or encourage any criminal behaviour on this site, including, but not limited to, harassment, bullying, discrimination, criminal damage or violence in any form.
11. I acknowledge that all rights of speech, excludes incitement of violence against any individual or group.
12. As a discussion moderator, if I believe that any individual’s comments cross a criminal line, or if I need clarification on whether comments break MCN’s rules, I will take steps to report this behaviour and bring it to the attention of site wide moderators.

Membership

13. As a member, I understand that I have the ability to invite others to join the MCN. I will feel confident, to the best of my ability, that any members I invite will also represent the principles of the MCN as I do.
14. As a member, I understand that the minimum age for participation in the MCN is 16 years old and I will not invite those under the age of 16. 
15. I understand that under no circumstances will membership be allowed for extremists or activists connected to, or involved in well-known activist groups or their subsidiaries. A non-exhaustive list of banned groups can be found below.
16. I understand that membership of the MCN is only permitted for individuals who live in the UK, or British citizens who have moved abroad and wish to support the work of their previous local community.
17. I understand that the MCN is only for the promotion of British principles and the good of local communities. It is not for individual or group self-promotion. Promotion for the sake of the individual or group gain, rather than for the benefit of their community, is not permitted. Those looking to gather support for election or public office are exempt from this policy, assuming that the platform they stand on, (independently or on behalf of any party) reflects the needs of their community and values of the MCN.
18. I will not use the MCN to promote businesses, goods or services for personal financial gain. I understand that any personal promotion, monetisation or personal financial gain will mean an automatic ban from the MCN. Those offering a service or resources to aid a community project will be exempt from this policy.
19. I fully understand that disruptive behaviour or if I repeatedly invite disruptive members to undermine the work of any MCN project, will result in my membership being revoked.
20. The MCN reserves the right to ban those who break the rules of the MCN. The decision of the MCN will be carefully considered, but when made, will be final.

Banned Groups

No individual employed by or associated with any of the following groups may join the MCN. The groups in this list, in the opinion of the MCN, are deemed to be politically extreme, ideologically extreme or opposed to the people of United Kingdom and their principles. This is not an exhaustive list and may be updated at any time. Members may recommend additions to this list via email.

Finances and Data

20. I agree to contribute £5 per year to cover hosting, technical upgrades and website management.
21. I acknowledge that no payment data will be stored on the MCN website. The payment processor is responsible for the security of payment data and has been chosen for the security protection of members. This processor may be changed at any time if deemed to be unsafe for members and their data protection.
22. The MCN is a non-profit making organisation built on a voluntary participation basis. I agree that any surplus collective funds after website maintenance, should help support where possible, MCN community projects.
23. Initially the decision of which projects will be funded, will be carefully considered and made by the MCN on the basis of need and available funds. This decision will be final and announced on the MCN website.
24. I acknowledge that if surplus funds become significant enough to cover website maintenance for both the current and upcoming year, the MCN fully intends to democratise, by member vote, the decision making process for funding any and all projects.
25. I agree that surplus funds cannot be used to pay salaries or profits to the owners of the MCN, or anyone associated with the organisation and running of the MCN.
26. I acknowledge that as I have access to this Charter and agree to MCN’s purpose and rules before registration, I will not receive a refund if I am banned or decide to cancel my membership.
27. MCN does not and will not sell your data to third parties. MCN operates only on annual membership payments. 

Action

31. I acknowledge that the MCN exists on the basis of voluntary participation. While participation in this site aims to galvanise local engagement in society, no member can be compelled to take action and no member’s speech can be compelled.
32. I acknowledge that the MCN facilitates networking and encourages active problem solving but cannot take responsibility for any activity or behaviour of members, outside of this website.
33. I will take responsibility for my safety and security, as well as the safety and security of others, both online and in real life. I will mitigate, to the best of my ability, potential risks for all members.
34. I will aim to engage more with local politics, local institutions, and actionable projects to ensure that my community improves for all residents.
35. I will make efforts to ensure that representatives and institutions whom I place my support behind, will protect, promote and live the principles of Fairness, Democracy, Rule of Law and Individual Freedom, as well as upholding the cultural traditions of the UK, through their actions, not just words.
